DTC DIY Natural Dog Grooming Outdoor Summer Series
Jun 24, 2025We have reached the final DTC DIY natural grooming outdoor summer series.
How to dry your dog using the MetroVac Air Force Commander Pet Blow-dryer
During this session, you'll learn the art of outdoor dog grooming using tools like the MetroVac Air Force Commander Two-Speed Pet Dryer in Blue and a sturdy DIY elevated wooden grooming table. These tables, favored by all DTC-trained dogs, are perfect for spring, summer, and winter use. Drying your wet dog outside, especially medium or large breeds with long or double coats, becomes quicker and more efficient, significantly cutting down on grooming time.
Begin by conditioning your dog to stand on the grooming table. With daily training, the process becomes straightforward and comfortable for both you and your pet. The forced air blow dryer ensures a hygienic grooming experience with minimal indoor mess, making cleanup a breeze. This setup is indispensable for dog owners who value efficiency and cleanliness in their grooming routine.
We use our air force blow dryer year-round with the dogs. Once your dogs are trained, they easily jump up on the grooming table, allowing you to effortlessly clip them in their grooming lines, turn on and begin to blow-dry them before going in the house. No stinky, wet, hair mess, no nasty dirty towels to wash and no bending down or straining your back. If you have more than one dog like I do this is a must-have tool! Combined with training the grooming table it has made my life easier. The tables are kept under a covered area, so it is ready for us to use all year round daily.
After you have trained your dog to stand and sit stay on the table for 10 minutes each position, begin to teach your dog to accept the grooming lines for two weeks before introducing the blow dryer. The grooming lines are detachable simple and practical lines, one his a head collar, you can use a basic flat collar or chain style. I prefer the chain for blow drying as air blows through the links. I put the collar on dead ring style. The belly line is a nylon single loop style line with a brass snap on one end. That connects to the head line. Creating a harness style loop line. The dog steps though it and you move it up to the dogs flank area or just behind the last rib in the groin area of the dog.
My grooming lines are anchored securely to the rafters in my covered outdoor grooming space. Making them a overhead line set up. You can also build an over head grooming bar that attaches to your table, however I do not like that the bars are fixed and in my work space making it more difficult to maneuver around my dog and the table. The grooming lines are nice for helping your dog remain standing and more comfortable for longer grooming and blow-dryer sessions.
