Social Method Dog Training Model

In dog training total resource management is defined as trainer is in full control of the resources the dog values.  Such as food, water, handler-dog touch, toys, chews and physical space in each environment.  Resource management is part of Social Method Dog Training.   Formal training includes 1-5 training environments. Lastly the Trainer identifies the individual dog’s most valuable resource and uses this to train (manipulate) the dog.

Total resource management means the trainer trains, controls and offers the dog what the dog values most as identified above.  All dogs value these resources: food, water, handler-dog touch, toys, chews and physical space.  Each of these 6 resources are used daily to train the dog formally in working dog programs.  Total resource management is to focus on using all 6 dog valued resources.  To successfully train a full-time working dog who is trained to serve a human in one of the following disciplines: service dog, mobility assistance, protection, law enforcement patrol, law enforcement drug/explosives detection, therapy, wellness, performance sports and highly trained pets.

All trainers and handlers of dogs in training to become trained dog status which means finished and reliable must master total resource management training technique.  The finished trained dog is used to structure, leadership and purpose daily.  Total resource management is a natural progressive process that helps build a set of rules of engagement.   These rules help the trainer-handler demonstrate trust and leadership skills.  As well as the student dog gains trust and passive social behavior requirements aka obedience and social skills for everyday life.
